WHERE + BE + NOUN OR PRONOUN
Where soru sözcüğü kişi veya nesnenin nerede olduğunu öğrenmek isteğimiz zaman kullanılır. Önceki derslerimizde Is Bill in the class? (Bill sınıfta mı?) sorusunu incelemiştik. Bu soru tipi yes/no (evet/hayır) soru tipidir ve kişinin bir yerde olup olmadığını sormaktadır. Where ile sorulan sorularda ise sorulan kişi veya nesnenin nerede olduğu konusunda hiç bir fikri yoktur soruyu soran kişinin.

Bu sorulara verilecek cevaplar mutlaka edat takımı gerektirmektedir.
The map is under the desk. Harita sıranın altındadır.
The teacher is in the classroom. Öğretmen sınıftadır.
The books are on the chair. Kitaplar masanın üzerindedir.
The mechanics are in the barracks. Tamirciler koğuştadırlar.
NOT: Where is Where’s şeklinde kısaltılabilir, ancak
Where are Where’re şeklinde kısaltılmaz.
Where is the book? It’s on the bed.
Kitap nerededir? O yatağın üstündedir.
Where’s the office? It’s in the building.
Büro nerededir? O binanın içindedir.
Where’s the schedule? It’s on the bulletin board.
Program nerededir? O ilan panosundadır.
Where is Bill? He’s at the mess hall.
Bill nerededir? O yemekhanededir.
Where’s Lt Jones? He’s at the BX (Base Exchange).
Ütğm.Jones nerededir? O üs alışveriş merkezindedir.
Where’s Joe? He is at the library.
Joe nerededir? O kütüphanededir.
Sgt Brown is at the bus stop.
Çvş. Brown otobüs durağındadır.
Bob is sick and he’s at the dispensary.
Bob hastadır ve o revirdedir.
NOT: Edatların kullanımında bazı durumlar kalıplaşmıştır. Örneğin otobüste derken daima on the bus, üste derken on the base, duvarda asılı derken on the wall, arabada derken daima in the car demek gereklidir. Bir kişinin genel olarak herhangi bir yerde olduğunu anlatmak için de at edatı kullanılır (at the snack bar, at the dining hall, at the hospital gibi). Daha küçük ve kapalı yerlerde ise in edatı kullanınız (in the office, in his room gibi).
