Hayvanlar, bitkileri t\u00fcketerek beslenme ihtiya\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131 giderir ve bu besinlerden enerji ihtiyclar\u0131n\u0131 kar\u015f\u0131larlar. Baz\u0131 hayvanlar da hem bitkisel hemde hayvansal g\u0131dalar\u0131 t\u00fcketerek besin ve enerji ihtiya\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131 kar\u015f\u0131larlar. T\u00fcm canl\u0131lar bu besinlerin bir k\u0131sm\u0131n\u0131 metabolizmalar\u0131n\u0131n yap\u0131s\u0131 ve b\u00fcy\u00fcmesi i\u00e7in di\u011fer k\u0131sm\u0131n\u0131 ise metabolizmalar\u0131n\u0131n devam\u0131 i\u00e7in enerjiye d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcrerek kullan\u0131rlar. Hayvanlar i\u00e7in al\u0131nan besinler i\u00e7erisinde mineraller,proteinler,ya\u011flar,karbonhidratlar su ve vitaminler bulunmakta olup,canl\u0131 v\u00fccudu kendi ihtiyac\u0131 olan\u0131 ald\u0131ktan sonra kalan at\u0131klar\u0131 ya da ihtiya\u00e7 duymad\u0131\u011f\u0131 fazlal\u0131klar\u0131 d\u0131\u015far\u0131 atarlar. Bu olaylara d\u0131\u015fk\u0131lama ve bo\u015falt\u0131m denir. Bu olay da kemosentez olarak tan\u0131mlan\u0131r. Bu olaylar zinciri bu \u015fekilde milyonlarca y\u0131ld\u0131r s\u00fcrmektedir. Her halkadan bir \u00fcst halkaya aktar\u0131lan organik besin ve enerjinin oran\u0131 canl\u0131n\u0131n kendisi i\u00e7in kulland\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n 9 da 1&#8242; idir.
