S\u0131navdan y\u00fcksek puan alanlar\u0131n DNA&#8217;lar\u0131n\u0131 incelediler. Psychological Science isimli derginin may\u0131s say\u0131s\u0131nda yer alan ara\u015ft\u0131rma raporuna g\u00f6re IGF2R geninin bir \u015fekli olan ve ad\u0131na &#8221;allele 5&#8221; denilen gen zek\u00e2dan sorumluydu.<br \/>\n Ancak Plomin bu genin bir &#8221;\u00fcst\u00fcn zek\u00e2 geni&#8221; olmad\u0131\u011f\u0131na dikkat \u00e7ekiyor. Bu gen yaln\u0131zca fazladan d\u00f6rt IQ puan\u0131 anlam\u0131na geliyor. Ve bu gen bir insan\u0131 \u00fcst\u00fcn zek\u00e2l\u0131 yapmaya yetmiyor: Ortalama IQ&#8217;ya sahip \u00e7ocuklar\u0131n y\u00fczde 23&#8217;\u00fc bu gene sahipken \u00fcst\u00fcn zek\u00e2l\u0131 \u00e7ocuklar\u0131n y\u00fczde 54&#8217;\u00fcnde bu gen bulunmuyor.<br \/>\n Ak\u0131ll\u0131 gen &#8221;Insulinlike growth factor 2 receptor- IGF2R-\u0130ns\u00fclin benzeri b\u00fcy\u00fcme fakt\u00f6r\u00fc 2 resept\u00f6r\u00fc&#8221; ismi ile tan\u0131n\u0131yor. Bu gen ins\u00fclin geni ile b\u00fcy\u00fck benzerlikler ta\u015f\u0131yor. S\u0131radan bir hormon bir h\u00fccreye yana\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131 zaman baz\u0131 durumlarda h\u00fccrenin b\u00fcy\u00fcmesine baz\u0131 durumlarda ise h\u00fccrenin intihar etmesine yol a\u00e7ar. Bu iki tepki de beynin geli\u015fmesi s\u0131ras\u0131nda izlenen normal faaliyetlerdir. Fare beyinlerinde \u00f6\u011frenme ve bellek b\u00f6lgelerinin ins\u00fclin resept\u00f6rleri ile kapl\u0131 oldu\u011funu fark eden Ulusal Sa\u011fl\u0131k Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc&#8217;nden bilim adamlar\u0131 ins\u00fclinin sinirlerin b\u00fcy\u00fcmesini h\u0131zland\u0131rd\u0131\u011f\u0131 sonucuna vard\u0131lar.<br \/>\n Bu sonu\u00e7 IGF2R&#8217;in beyni ve dolay\u0131s\u0131yla zek\u00e2y\u0131 etkiledi\u011fi tezini desteklese de baz\u0131 genetik\u00e7iler IQ-gen ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131nda elde edilen sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n do\u011frulu\u011fu konusunda ku\u015fkulular. Plomin&#8217;in grubunun buldu\u011fu ak\u0131ll\u0131 genin akademik y\u00f6nden ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131 olan \u00e7ocuklarda rastlanan yayg\u0131n bir gen oldu\u011fu fikrini \u00f6ne s\u00fcren ku\u015fkucu grubun s\u00f6zc\u00fcs\u00fc Johns Hopkins \u00dcniversitesi&#8217;nden Andrew Feinberg  &#8221;Bulduklar\u0131 genin etnik farkl\u0131l\u0131klardan kaynaklanmad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 kim bilebilir?&#8221; diye soruyor. \u00d6te yandan Stanford \u00dcniversitesi&#8217;nden Neil Risch  Plomin&#8217;in bu ara\u015ft\u0131rmas\u0131na ili\u015fkin g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015flerini \u015f\u00f6yle dile getiriyor:&#8221;Plomin&#8217;in ara\u015ft\u0131rmas\u0131 bana kal\u0131rsa rastlant\u0131lara dayan\u0131yor. Bir kromozomun \u00fczerindeki 37 genin aras\u0131ndan bir geni bulup \u00e7\u0131kartarak bunun ak\u0131ll\u0131 gen oldu\u011funu iddia etmek bilimsel bir temele dayanm\u0131yor. \u00d6rne\u011fin \u00e7e\u015fitli ara\u015ft\u0131rmalarda \u015fizofreni geni merakl\u0131l\u0131k geni gibi \u00e7e\u015fitli ki\u015filik \u00f6zellikleri ile ilgili genler bulundu. Cornell \u00dcniversitesi&#8217;nden psikolog Stephen Ceci genlerin bir vakum i\u00e7inde \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmad\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 belirterek &#8221;Bu soruyu yan\u0131tlamak i\u00e7in \u00f6nce daha ba\u015fka sorular\u0131 a\u00e7\u0131kl\u0131\u011fa kavu\u015fturmak gerekiyor. Zek\u00e2y\u0131 etkileyen genlerin \u00e7evresel ko\u015fullardan nas\u0131l etkilendi\u011fini ortaya \u00e7\u0131kartmak \u00f6n ko\u015fuldur. \u00d6rne\u011fin hamilelik d\u00f6neminde annenin beslenme \u015fekli bile zek\u00e2y\u0131 b\u00fcy\u00fck \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcde etkiler&#8221; diyor.<br \/>\n Plomin bu arada IQ geni ile ilgili iki kromozomu daha inceledi. Bunlardan elde etti\u011fi sonu\u00e7lar\u0131 ekim ay\u0131nda a\u00e7\u0131klamay\u0131 planl\u0131yor. Bu arada DNA&#8217;n\u0131n zihinsel ve bedensel t\u00fcm \u00f6zelliklerimizi belirledi\u011fi inanc\u0131n\u0131n kesinle\u015fmesi i\u00e7in ak\u0131ll\u0131 genin \u00e7evre ile nas\u0131l bir etkile\u015fim i\u00e7inde oldu\u011funa a\u00e7\u0131kl\u0131k getirilmesi gerekiyor.
